Derek Carr Announces Retirement

A few weeks ago, a weird report came out that Derek Carr was dealing with some serious shoulder stuff that might cost him the 2025 NFL Season. It turns out, it’s going to cost him more than just the 2025 Season. In a twist many people may not have totally seen coming, the former Fresno State product has decided to announce his retirement.

After consulting with his wife, Carr is retiring from the sport.

The Saints put out this statement to break the news of Carr hanging up the cleats:

“Upon reflection of prayer, and in discussion with Heather, I’ve decided to retire from the National Football League,” said Carr. “For more than 11 years, we have been incredibly blessed, and we are forever grateful and humbled by this experience. It’s difficult to find the right words to express our thanks to all the teammates, coaches, management, ownership, team officials and especially the fans who made this journey so special. Your unwavering support has meant the world to us.”

Carr, 34, racked up over $195 million in career earnings, which probably helped make this decision easier. Carr is financially set for the rest of his life after cashing in on some big quarterback contracts. For his career, he ends with a completion percentage mark of over 65%, 41,245 passing yards, 257 touchdowns, and 112 interceptions. Not a bad career for a former second round pick in 2014!

Speaking of second round picks, it sure sounds like Tyler Shough is going to be the guy for the Saints in 2025. Regardless, cheers to a hell of a career for Carr. Once upon a time, he was almost the MVP of the league. The Saints’ tenure didn’t exactly go great, but this guy made a ton of money and was one of the best quarterbacks in Raiders history over the last 25 years or so. Credit to him for that.
