Josh McCown Was Almost Forced To Play Receiver For The Eagles

I can’t remember a wide receiver group that was worse than what the Philadelphia Eagles are putting on the field. To end the Monday Night game against the Giants, Philly was rocking with Greg Ward, JJ Arcega Whiteside, Josh Perkins, and Boston Scott. I kid you not. That was the group. Alshon Jeffery left game and things got so ugly that Philadelphia was almost forced to do the unthinkable.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson was forced to rock with Josh McCown at wide receiver:

“Why can’t he? He’s active, he’s dressed,” Pederson said during his weekly appearance on Sports Radio 94.1 on Tuesday. “He’s actually done that in a game before — in his career he has done that. Now, it has been about 10 years ago, but he has lined up as a receiver in an actual football game.”

Pederson said it all right there. “10 years ago”. Josh McCown is 40 years old. We’re talking about a 40 year old quarterback who was retired to start the year and also coaches high school football going out there to run routes. That’s so embarrassing. Still, it almost happened. One more injury out there for the Birds and Josh McCown was going to be running routes. So crazy.

That defines just how bad this receiver group is for Philly. At this point, McCown might be an upgrade over Arcega Whiteside. That’s not a joke either. Arcega Whiteside is unplayable bad. Trust me, I was at the game. Greg Ward is the best thing they have going and he was a college quarterback and couldn’t make the Week 1 roster. He also had an ugly drop that almost cost the Eagles the game.

All I know is I love Howie Roseman. He should be fired if he doesn’t find a way to upgrade this position.
