2024 NFL Scouting Combine: Tight End Notes

We’re back with the second day at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. Today will feature the cornerbacks, safeties, and tight ends. It’s another day of truth bombs while the rest of the industry feeds you a mountain of lies that make no sense.

Let’s get right down to business. Here are your tight end notes for the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine.

*Link to official combine results.

AJ Barner (Michigan)

Did not run and couldn’t move the sled to save his life. I think he sucks, which was established at the combine. Watching him run his feet on the sled was pathetic. Caught the ball fine but has nothing to him. Stinky route runner. Hesitates and get going in the break. Dropped the ball on the wheel route. Dropped his very next attempt in the drills. Did catch his fade but who cares? I hate this guy.

Jaheim Bell (Florida State)

Not a real tight end. Have to remember that. Never going to be in-line. Considering that, the 40 (4.61) I wish was better but still really good. Good hands on him. Decent route runner. He’s going to have to be a versatile weapon. Geared up well on the wheel route. Sick one hander in the fade.

Devin Culp (Washington)

WTF was that 40 (4.47)? Undersized with basically zero production but he was moving. Play speed not as fast on the gauntlet. Looks the part. Trip on the in cut. He actually didn’t finish his routes well. More speed and sizzle than real results. Couldn’t track the ball in the wheel route. Doesn’t look like a tight end though.

Dallin Holker (Colorado State)

Was a big fan at the East-West. Made a sick one-handed catch in the gauntlet. Had a stumble on the in route. Wasn’t super blown away in the workout but he did his part. Had some drops. Actually thought it was a bit of an underwhelming workout. Being slower than the fridge from Minnesota and being the slowest of the group isn’t exactly inspiring.

Theo Johnson (Penn State)

Pretty good moving the sled. The 40 time was actually better than I thought and workable (4.57). Like to the point where my brain hasn’t processed it yet. Gets the job done but not blowing you away. Actually looks okay going down the field making plays. Helped himself at the Senior Bowl. Is he actually good?

Trey Knox (South Carolina)

Did not run. Really good in the gauntlet. Actually don’t think speed is an issue for him so that was weird.

Tanner McLachlan (Arizona)

Kinda just looks average to me. Not sure he’s toolsy either. I don’t think you’re getting much than a depth piece. Doesn’t attack the ball in the fade. Dropped his fade on attempt number two.

Tip Reiman (Illinois)

Killed the sled drill. Damn good blocker. No issues catching the ball and a damn clean gauntlet. Some swerving but he’s also built like a small tackle. Big thick body too. Really struggled to catch once the routes started. Like to the point where it was really bad.

Ja’Tavion Sanders (Texas)

Moved the sled well blocking, which was one of my question marks. Straight line not as fast as I thought (4.69) but play speed catching the ball much better. Has some extra juice when he cuts. He looks way better on the field compared to straight line running. Really good in the drills. No drop issues. Can just tell he’s smooth running the route tree. Today was a good day for him.

Ben Sinnot (Kansas State)

Does a lot of good things. Ran adequate (4.68). Blocked damn well. Zooming pretty good on the gauntlet. Hockey background. I like his feet. Got some giddy up to him. Pretty well rounded.

Brevyn Spann-Ford (Minnesota)

Continues to look like a fridge. Slow as dirt (4.77). Didn’t like him at the Senior Bowl. Moved the sled but we knew he could block.

Cade Stover (Ohio State)

I already know he’s tough and can block. Destroyed the sled with ease. Doesn’t have any sort of crazy burst. Can catch without any issues. 4.65 is more than fine for him. Think he’s going to help you on special teams and occasional linebacker duties if a team chooses.

Jared Wiley (TCU)

That’s a tall drink of water right there. Not egregious blocking. Held his own there. He looks enormous. Movement skills were pretty good. 4.62 with 6-foot-6 and that catch radius? Might have something.
