Philadelphia 76ers’ center Joel Embiid plans to represent the United States at the 2024 Paris Olympics, according to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps.
Embiid, a native of Cameroon, plans to play for Team USA in Paris if his recovery process from knee surgery goes well.
In the 36 games Embiid has played this season, he is averaging 35.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.8 blocks per game.
The United States participated in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, where they lost in the semi-finals against Germany, 111-113, with a roster that didn’t include many of the top players in the NBA. Team USA would eventually place fourth in the tournament, losing to Canada in the third place game that went into overtime, 118-127.
The 2024 Olympics will be played from July 27th to Aug. 11th, having 5×5 and 3×3 for both men’s and women’s competitions. Basketball will have 13 countries be represented at the Summer Olympics Games, including Germany, which won the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
Track and Field runner Noah Lyles commented about Team USA and the NBA about being “World Champions” when winning the NBA Finals.
It seems like Team USA heard the roar after losing in the semi-finals and are going to bring in some of the better and most well-known players in the NBA to the Paris Olympics. It is rumored that LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Devin Booker and Jrue Holiday are joining Team USA for the games.
Despite Joel Embiid suffering a knee injury and being out for sometime, the 76ers are currently in fifth-place, holding a record of 34-25 with the final quarter of the NBA season remaining.
