With several teams on a bye in Week 7, the fantasy football waiver wire is crucial for managers who need to patch holes in their lineup. Let’s discuss the five players you should target on the waiver wire.
Before we dive into the best available waiver wire targets for Week 6 let’s quickly recap some players from previous weeks that may still be available. If these players are still available, they are worth an addition. This section will be particularly useful if you need receiver help. The receivers that we discussed in past weeks are much better than other pass-catchers on the waiver wire.
The top fantasy football waiver target for Week 7 is San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason. After an injury to Christian McCaffrey, Mason is in a position to be fantasy-relevant.
At the moment, it is hard to say exactly what is happening with the 49ers backfield. It is unknown if McCaffrey will miss time. It is also not guaranteed whether Mason or Elijah Mitchell will get the bulk of the carries.
I lean toward adding Mason. Thus far into the year, Mitchell has been active in three games. On top of that, Mason out-carried Mitchell 10 to two in week 6.
It is difficult to project exactly how San Francisco will manage backfield touches. It is still worth investing in, however. The 49ers running backs are great fantasy assets and worth rostering.
If McCaffrey misses games, Mason is a great asset. If he does not, Mason is basically a handcuff. That is not the worst outcome. An injured McCaffrey could see fewer touches to help him stay fresh for the playoffs. At the same time, the risk of another injury increases. Either way, Mason is worth adding.
The Cleveland Browns brought Kareem Hunt back on a one-year deal after Nick Chubb suffered a season-ending injury. After four weeks on the roster, Hunt finally broke out.
In Week 6, Hunt finished with 12 carries for 47 yards and a touchdown. In the passing game, he added three catches for 24 yards.
Hunt is trending in the right direction. It was unrealistic that he would walk into Cleveland and cement himself as the lead back. It was much more realistic to believe the Browns would ease him into action. It looks like that has been accomplished.
Hunt will not be a lead back that logs 25 touches a game. Still, he will be productive and is a fantasy football waiver wire target.
The Los Angeles Rams backfield was hit with the injury bug in Week 6. Kyren Williams and Ronnie Rivers both got hurt. Williams suffered an ankle injury and is questionable. Meanwhile, Rivers, the backup, will miss several weeks.
The injuries to the Rams backfield leave Zach Evans as the top healthy option. The Ole Miss product was a prospect with high potential as he entered the league. If he gets an opportunity as a starter, he could put fantasy points on the board.
If Williams misses time, Evans is a fantasy football waiver wire target worth adding. At a minimum, he is a potential starter during a week with several teams on bye. If he succeeds in that role, he may work himself into a bigger workload as the season progresses.
Detroit Lions running back Craig Reynolds is yet another player that could benefit from an injury. In Week 6, starting running back David Montgomery suffered a rib injury that will force him to miss time.
In Montomgery’s absence, Reynolds logged 10 carries for 15 yards as well as two catches for 28 yards. While it is unlikely that Reynolds lights the world on fire, he will get touches and will take over goalline responsibilities.
The real difference in Reynolds’ production will be Jahmyr Gibbs. The rookie back has missed the Lions’ last two games with a hamstring injury. If Gibbs plays, Reynolds is far less relevant. This has already been made evident. In Week 3, Montgomery was out against the Falcons which led to a Gibbs and Reynolds backfield. In that game, Gibbs out-touched Reynolds 19 to four.
Reynolds should not be as high of a priority as the aforementioned players or players from previous posts. Still, he is worth keeping an eye on based on the injury status of Montgomery and Gibbs. That is worthy of making him a fantasy football waiver wire target.
The final fantasy football waiver wire target for this week is Miami Dolphins running back Salvon Ahmed. The Dolphins offense is one of the few that can make two running backs fantasy relevant. With De’Von Achane on Injured Reserve, that opens for another running back to step up.
The opening behind Raheem Mostert falls between Ahmed and Jeff Wilson Jr. In all honesty, Ahmed and Wilson are both worthy of a waiver claim. The difference between the two is that Ahmed and been active and healthy. On the other hand, Wilson is more proven.
I prefer Ahmed. We have seen that he can produce. It would not be a shock to see Wilson return and out-touch Ahmed. Either way, we have to play the hot hand here. Regardless, do not get too excited. Achane will be back in three games and both players will be fantasy irrelevant. Still, they are solid streaming options for three weeks.
