Vince McMahon allegedly ousted from high position in WWE after Endeavor merger

Vince McMahon recently sold WWE to Endeavor but it seems like his plans to retain power have fallen through.

After decades of running WWE, McMahon shockingly decided to sell the promotion to Endeavor, which merged it with UFC and formed TKO Group. Fans were notably upset by the move, as many have begun to criticize Vince McMahon’s booking decisions. While he initially seemingly retained his control over Creative, it now seems like Ariel Emanuel–CEO of Endeavor–has decided to strip him of some of his power.

According to a recent report from Wrestling Observer, Triple H has been given full control of WWE Creative, and Vince McMahon no longer has the final say.

“Well, he’s out of creative,” according to Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer. “It’s a big story because Ari Emanuel, when they were on the verge of closing the deal, and had actually closed the deal in April, did media rounds and (said), ‘Vince will be in charge of the company (WWE), and if me and Vince have a disagreement, it goes the way Vince wants because Vince is the guy’. So then the deal went through, it only really went through about a month ago, and already, Vince is out of creative because of Ari Emanuel.

“Vince is now in the position that his father was in in ‘84 when his father had run the company for years and years and years, and (then) he was just an employee of Vince Jr. Although he hates that term – Vincent Kennedy McMahon. Vincent Kennedy McMahon was the guy making all the decisions, and now, Vince was in fact overruled, even though when he merged the company he was told this would not happen.

It remains to be seen if this move will largely affect McMahon or not, but he continues on as TKO Executive Chairman, which some have argued is a far higher position. Because of this, perhaps this isn’t the power move that many of his detractors think it is.

WWE legend Lex Luger recently put to rest an old rumor about Vince McMahon

Lex Luger was a major name in WWF during the 90s but never won championship gold. The veteran eventually went off to WCW, where he became a two-time World Champion and won many other titles. For years, the internet has claimed that Vince McMahon promised Luger a World Championship, but according to the legend himself, this is untrue.

In an episode of his Lex Expresso podcast, he explained that he wasn’t meant to win the belt at SummerSlam 1993.

“[Vince McMahon] didn’t make me feel like I was going to be the [top] babyface, and contrary to popular belief, he never promised me the title or said that I was going to be the champion,” Luger said. “So I wasn’t shocked when I didn’t get it at SummerSlam. He always felt that if I was going to win the title, he’d rather do it, and make it special. The Garden was always a very special place for events, most people know that. If he put the title on me, he wanted to do it at WrestleMania 10 at the Garden. So really, SummerSlam was never in the mix for me to win the title.”

(H/T: Fightful).

In hindsight, Luger noted that it would have probably helped him to have captured the WWE Championship that night if only to had dropped it sometime after. With this long-standing rumor finally put to rest, could there be more allegations made against Vince McMahon that were similarly exaggerated by fans?
