2023 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Targets: Week 6

It is time for fantasy football managers to dive into the best available waiver wire targets. The waiver wire is in a solid position heading into Week 6 and presents some intriguing options. It is not the season’s best week, but we have valuable options.

Before we dive into the best available waiver wire targets for Week 6 let’s quickly recap some players from previous weeks that may still be available. If these players are still available, they are worth an addition.

Curtis Samuel– 14.7%

The top waiver wire target for this week is Washington Commanders wide receiver Curtis Samuel.

Samuel has always been an interesting player from a fantasy perspective. In 2023, he has been quietly productive. This was capped by a Week 5 performance that saw him finish with six receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown.

In theory, Samuel should be the third option in the Commanders’ offense. That said, the target share between Samuel, Terry McLaurin, and Jahan Dotson is pretty close. Samuel sits with 27 targets while McLaurin and Dotson sit with 31 and 30, respectively.

Samuel should be able to consistently find points if continues to get a sizeable target share. On top of that, he has a big play upside. The combination of those two factors makes Samuel a solid waiver wire addition.

Josh Downs– 10.9%

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs has proved to be a quality fantasy option shortly into his rookie season. Now, it is time to target him on the fantasy football waiver wire.

Josh Downs has quickly cemented himself as the number two receiver in Indianapolis. In an above-average Colts offense, that is a quality trait. As a rookie, he should only improve as the season progresses.

Downs is being given solid opportunities as a rookie. As a prospect, he was projected as a solid slot receiver. I am a fan of promising rookies that are being given opportunities. Downs is in that category.

The big question mark surrounding the Colts offense is Anthony Richardson‘s health. The rookie quarterback has played well, but he is facing a shoulder injury and will likely miss time. Thankfully for Downs, he has produced in Richardson’s absence. In Week 3, backup quarterback Gardner Mineshew got the start and Downs recorded 8 catches on 12 targets for 57 yards. That provides some promise that Downs can continue to produce without Richardson.

Rashee Rice– 23.3%

The streak of waiver wire wide receivers continues with Kansas City Chiefs rookie Rashee Rice.

The Chiefs’ offense is one of the best in the league and you want your fantasy team to be filled with players from quality offenses. The only issue is that it has been a struggle to figure out which Chiefs receiver to add. That is changing and it is nearly time to crown Rice as the team’s number two pass catcher.

Rice has the second-most targets of any Chiefs pass catcher behind only Travis Kelce. As the season progresses, Rice should see an increase in targets. The Chiefs wide receiver room lacks talent which provides Rice with opportunity. I am expecting Rice and Justyn Ross to see increases in targets while other receivers see fewer opportunities.

I do not think Rice will peak in the upcoming weeks. Instead, I think that will happen later in the season. I am still fine with rostering Rice as he slowly sees an increase in targets.

Roschon Johnson– 37%

Chicago Bears running back Roschon Johnson is in line for an increase in touches, which makes him a viable fantasy football waiver wire target.

The Bears are expected to be without lead back Khalil Herbert for several weeks because of an ankle injury. That will make Johnson the team’s lead back which makes him worth adding.

Johnson was not a great prospect, but he is in line for a great opportunity. The Bears should be looking to run the ball and will have to utilize Johnson. That should yield positive fantasy results even if he does not perform the best from a real-life standpoint.

K.J. Osborn– 21.6%

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver K.J. Osborn has the potential to be a great fantasy football waiver wire target. Osborn’s fantasy football potential hinges on Justin Jefferson and his hamstring injury. If Jefferson misses time, Osborn will be a great option.

The Vikings are going to throw the ball. In a pass-heavy offense, several players will see targets. If Jefferson is out, a massive amount of targets will be redistributed. Those targets will not all fall on Osborn’s shoulder, but he will certainly see a jump in usage. Osborn currently averages 5.2 targets a game. If Jefferson is out, that number will increase and make Osborn a viable fantasy option.
