Zach Evans 2023 NFL Draft Profile

What do you need to know about Ole Miss running back Zach Evans? Let’s check out his 2023 NFL Draft Profile! (Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports)

Zach Evans 2023 NFL Draft Profile

Talent doesn’t always match production. In the case of Zach Evans, good luck. That’s all I’ll say. It’s a deep running back draft class but should you take a shot on the Ole Miss product? Let’s check out the 2023 NFL Draft profile on Zach Evans!

Maybe I shouldn’t feel this way but it’s a reality. The emergence of Quinshon Judkins really hampers Evans’ stock. A three star true freshman walked in there and blew him out of the water. Now, I do think Judkins has sky high potential. However, it shouldn’t have happened the way that it did.

Thus far Evans has failed to live up to his talented recruiting profile. Evans was a monster recruit during the 2020 cycle and has been expected to become a star at the NFL level. It’s not like the recruiters missed the boat here. Evans has stupid talent. As a true freshman in limited touches Evans averaged 7.7 yards per carry for TCU. Running backs like that don’t necessarily grow on trees. Height, weight, speed, power; Evans is a box checking machine from a pure physical standpoint.

Evans doesn’t have any super major character red flags but he does appear to be a bit of a knucklehead. Could be possible that he has Kyler Murray disease. Otherwise known as being so talented that he doesn’t get it and never makes the most of it. Still even in what people considered to be a down year, Evans slept walked his way to 936 rushing yards (5.7 per carry) and nine touchdowns. He also has receiving production as well and can at least hold his own in that category. We saw special even if it didn’t happen all the time.

We didn’t get a combine performance from Evans which is a shame. Maybe from his knucklehead disease. We’ll never know for certain. However, the speed isn’t a question mark. Can make cuts no problem. Any movement skill you want to bring up isn’t a problem. Has top end speed to make home runs happen.

I have Zach Evans on my fantasy team already so I’m sure you have an idea I’m intrigued by the talent. Given the way he’s being viewed, it feels like a low risk-high reward proposition. Evans certainly has starting running back capabilities and you may end up with a high quality back in the middle rounds of the draft. At some point, the talent is too good to pass.
