2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl: Day 1 Practice Notes

Ah, shit. Here we go again. It’s that time of year again. The path to the 2022 NFL Draft, officially starts NOW. The pre-draft process goes a long way towards determining how things shake out on draft day. The 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl is arguably the biggest step towards that process.

Of course, Jim Nagy is an asshole so the first day of practices aren’t filmed. They used to be back in the good days with Phil Savage. NFL Network ran the show. Nope. We live in a Jim Nagy world who continues to be a scaredcoward. Sad.

That’s okay because this year we have Kam Moos down there. For my first set of practice notes, I’m solely going by what Kam told me and the limited videos I saw. Tomorrow and Thursday I’ll have the normal full practice notes. And next year… I’ll probably make sure I’m there.

Kenny Pickett looks like the star of the quarterback class down in Mobile. That’s not much of a surprise. Internally, I’ve kind of done a 180. For a lot of the year, I had Matt Corral QB1. I’m now on the Pickett train. I see a lot of Burrow here. Late bloomer, really good in that intermediate area, big balls, not the toolsiest guy, leader.

Pickett struggled to get the ball out and fumbled a couple of snaps. Otherwise, it seems like there was a clear gap between him and everyone else. Had more zip on the ball than most anticipated too.

Carson Strong has some sick arm talent but didn’t always connect on the deep ball oddly enough. Kam posted a video of Strong airing the ball out and it just sat flat for Coby Bryant of Cincinnati to make a play. Credit to Bryant who I’m fond of as well. I want to see Strong really go out there and rip it the rest of the week because he’s interesting.

Daniel Faalele got murdered. Couldn’t handle speed around the edge. Myjai Sanders blew by him like he didn’t exist.

The least shocking news of all time was to hear that Desmond Ridder went out there and stunk. No shit. He’s terrible. If you don’t like Jalen Hurts, get ready. Ridder is just a really bad imitation of that. You can have Ridder. I want no part of this cheese.

Jalen Tolbert was a big winner. The South Alabama looks quick and beat Roger McCreary (who I’m fond of) on a rep by Malik Willis. Looks quick and explosive. Can Run.

Kam says Jermaine Johnson was the best edge guy there.

Same for Brian Robinson out of the running backs. Abram Smith of Baylor apparently stinks.

However, Baylor’s Jalen Pitre looks like a potential sleeper. Safety – Linebacker guy that can do everything and anything.

Chad Muma looks like he can play but not so much in coverage.

Malik Willis did the expected. Missed some throws, tried to work reads, showed that he can run. Everyone has work to do figuring out what he is.
