Trinity Rodman signs historic NWSL contract for the Washington Spirit
The NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League) has a new highest-paid player in Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman.
According to the Washington Post, the 19-year-old has signed a four-year $1.1 million deal to stay in the nation’s capital on Wednesday ahead of her sophomore season.
In her rookie season Rodman, the daughter of former NBA star Dennis Rodman, finished with seven goals and a league-leading seven assists in 25 matches for the eventual champions. Trinity Rodman was named the NWSL’s Rookie of the Year following her impressive season.
The success in her first season may come as a surprise since the Washington State University commit never suited up for the Cougars as her freshman season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite not having a single touch of the ball in college she was drafted second overall in the 2021 NWSL Draft.
After her strong rookie season, there were options for her to play in Europe for teams such as FC Barcelona and Manchester City, but she decided to stay in the U.S.
Recently, Trinity Rodman was called up to the U.S. national team camp in the lead-up to the She Believes Cup that begins in February, 2022.
