Zion Johnson Is The Best Guard In The 2022 NFL Draft
The 2022 NFL Draft isn’t viewed as a strong one for offensive linemen, in my personal opinion. While their may be juicy names at the top, the depth in this draft is bad. If you don’t get your guy, good luck finding one later. Zion Johnson isn’t a name that’s getting a ton of buzz on draft day but maybe he should be.
The Boston College product looks like the best guard in this draft and I’m not sure it’s really close. I’m not sure he’s as obvious of a home run pick as Tyler Linderbaum, however, Johnson feels like a pretty safe bet in this draft compared to the other offensive line prospects.
More so than anything with these big guys only one thing matters more than everything else. Can he bend his knees? Well, my guy Zion aces that test. His base is awesome. His combine performance was awesome. Great knee bend and really flexible athlete.
It should also be mentioned his Senior Bowl performance was damn impressive. Zion graded out really well and played multiple different positions. More so, Johnson was the last guy off the field each day. The guy stayed after practice to work on something new. That stuff just matters. You can tell Johnson is a grinder that loves football.
The measurables are all there. 34 inch arms? Check. 6-foot-3, 312? Check. Big hands? Yup. 32 bench press reps? Hell, yes! 32 inch vertical? We’ll take it. Two time team captain? Thank you.
This is a powerful dude that’s going to be a plug and play starter at the next level. His game will just translate. The way he can sink his hips, attack next level blocks, the quick feet, position versatility, power… yeah this dude is going to make it.
