Xavier Worthy: Colts Hung Up on Me on Draft Night

If you didn’t already think the Indianapolis Colts were a mess, you will now, after hearing what Xavier Worthy has to say. Indy made a potentially colossal blunder the night of the 2024 NFL draft.

While appearing on The Rich Eisen Show, Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy said that the Colts called him while they were on the clock, awaiting to make their 15th overall pick. Apparently, the Colts hung up on Worthy without any explanation and went on to select UCLA defensive lineman Laiatu Latu.

Worthy explained, “I got a call at 15 . . . it was the Colts, hung up the phone in my face. It was a little crazy. The Colts called my phone on draft day and hung up the phone. They said, ‘Hello, this is so and so with the Colts.’ And then the call — they stopped talking and they hung up.”

Worthy said, “I’m positive,” when asked if he thought it could have been an accidental disconnection.

But to Xavier, that is in the past, as he is quite happy with ending up a Kansas City Chief, as unexpected as it may have been. Worthy mentioned how he thought KC had little interest in him, so when he got a call during the 28th pick, he thought it was the Buffalo Bills. The Bills originally had that pick before the Chiefs traded up for it to select Worthy.

Worthy stated, ”I heard from other teams. I never heard from the Chiefs. When they were on the clock I thought the call was Buffalo. And then it said K.C., it was the Chiefs, exactly where I wanted to be.”

Only time will tell if the Colts made a mistake passing on Xavier Worthy for Laiatu Latu, but we know they didn’t have to do it in such a rude way. With the recent benching of Anthony Richardson in favor of Joe Flacco and this story, the Colts are looking like more of a mess by the second.
