This week’s episode of WWE Monday Night RAW was kicked off by the United States Champion, Seth Rollins.
The U.S. champ began by addressing what went down last week on RAW. Chaos ensued after Bobby Lashley beat up Rollins before their match even started and Austin Theory unsuccessfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract. Rollins announced he would continue to be a fighting champion, and the main event for RAW would be Seth vs. Finn Balor for the U.S. title.
At this point, Rollins was interrupted by Lashley. Lashley vowed to get the United States Championship back no matter what it takes. Mustafa Ali then came out and stood his ground against Lashley, which led to a match.
Lashley won this match by submission in a pretty dominant fashion, but Ali didn’t necessarily look weak. He showed a lot of resiliency and made it tougher for Lashley than originally thought. Ali bumps for Lashley like a mad man, it is really awesome to see.
In Yim’s return match to WWE she took on Tamina. Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio of The Judgement Day came ringside to watch the match.
Yim managed to pick up a pretty clear victory by hitting the Eat Defeat. After the match, Yim taunted Ripley to enter the ring. Ripley acted as if she might, but then walked away with Mysterio.
After this match, Damage CTRL approached Yim backstage to see if she would be willing to join their team for WWE Survivor Series. Yim declined.
This was a really entertaining match. Triple H gave the two men a solid 15 minutes and they made use of it. Gable deserves a push at some point, he is so talented. There was a German supplex from the top rope during this match that Riddle sold like a realtor. Ultimately, Gable managed to get the victory via roll up. He had his feet on the ropes but the ref didn’t notice. It was nice to see Gable get a win here.
This special edition of Miz TV on RAW was hosted by Byron Saxton. Saxton didn’t do much talking as The Miz mostly made excuses for the whole Dexter Lumis situation. He admitted to paying Lumis, but claims Lumis would not stop when The Miz told him to. He was interrupted once again by Johnny Gargano, who announced that The Miz will be taking on Lumis at WWE Survivor Series. If Lumis wins that match, he will be awarded a WWE contract.
Dana Brooke was out looking for revenge on Damage CTRL and Nikki Cross for taking and discarding the 24/7 Championship last week on RAW. She wasn’t able to do so though, as IYO SKY picked up a relatively easy victory. SKY hit the Over the Moonsault for the victory.
After the match, Yim came out to let Damage CTRL know she would be competing at WWE Survivor Series, but it would be for the team of the WWE RAW Women’s Champion. Bianca Belair came out and the four women of her team stared down the quartet in the ring. This leaves 1 open spot on Belair’s team.
This match was set up a few segments earlier during a backstage interview. Theory was explaining his decision to cash in on Rollins. He explained that Roman Reigns has been nearly untouchable because of The Bloodline and that every time he tried to cash in on Reigns he was stopped. He figured the best option was to cash in on the United States Championship. This was nice and provided clarity on last week’s cash in. Theory gave us some really solid work here.
He was approached by Dolph Ziggler, which led to a match between the two men. This was a really fun bout. It was nice to see Ziggler on RAW, we haven’t seen him on TV in a while. After a back and forth battle, Theory hit his finisher twice. Instead of getting the pin, Theory decided to let all his anger out on Ziggler.
In my opinion, Theory looked better here than he did his entire run with the briefcase.
Before the main event, we got a clip backstage clip of Damage CTRL being approached by Rhea Ripley. Ripley quickly explained that she will join their team for WWE Survivor Series. She says if Yim is on the other team, then she is on this team. That completes Team Damage CTRL.
In the main event of this week’s WWE Monday Night RAW, we had the United States Champion, Seth Rollins, defending his title against Finn Balor. This was a great match. These men have a natural chemistry in the ring together that is undeniable.
Toward the end of the match, The Judgement Day came out to help Balor but were quickly greeted by The O.C. and Yim. An all-out brawl broke loose before Rollins managed to hit the curb stomp to retain his title amongst all the madness.
After the match, Rollins was attacked by a furious Theory. It is going to be interesting to see how this storyline involving the United States Championship plays out. It seems like there are potentially five challengers between Theory, Balor, Styles, Lashley and Ali.
One thing is for sure: WWE hasn’t had this much excitement surrounding the U.S. title in years.
