WWE Extreme Rules 2022: Early Match Card Predictions, Debuts, and Returns

WWE Extreme Rules is supposed to be one of the most chaotic and dangerous events of the year. With multiple matches having various stipulations, anything can happen. We’re about one month away from the show, which leaves plenty of time for feuds to build. WWE has really stepped it up since Triple H took over as Head of Creative for the company. The excitement has also gone up drastically for this show. I’m doing six matches because that’s how many were on last year’s Extreme Rules show and Clash at the Castle. So here are my early match card predictions for WWE Extreme Rules.

(*=Confirmed Matches)

Dexter Lumis def. The Miz

Dexter Lumis has been stalking the Miz since he made his return to WWE. He has yet to say a single word, but his actions have spoken volumes. While we don’t know why Lumis has been stalking the Miz, I think these two are set to meet face-to-face. A few weeks ago, Lumis actually kidnapped the Miz. Furthermore, Lumis followed the Miz back to his house, hiding in the back of his car. During Miz’s United States championship match against Bobby Lashley in a steel cage, Lumis appeared.

Miz was on the other side of the steel cage and about to drop out, but Lumis appeared on the floor. Miz fled back into the ring, ultimately costing him the match. The build for this storyline has been very intriguing. They haven’t revealed much, and it has been a nice slow build. I think these two are finally going to meet in the ring at Extreme Rules. Furthermore, I think Lumis is going to win, and this is going to lead to the breakup between the Miz and Tommaso Ciampa.

Dominik Mysterio def. Edge

Dominik Mysterio recently turned on his father, Rey Mysterio, and Edge. Rey Mysterio asked his longtime friend, Edge, to be his partner for his tag team match at Clash at the Castle. Rey and Edge took on Damian Priest and Finn Balor of Judgment Day. They picked up the win, but after the match, Dominik shocked the world, turning on both Edge and Rey and then joining Judgement Day on the following Monday Night Raw. Edge is set to take on Dominik Mysterio on this upcoming episode of Monday Night Raw. Even so, I don’t think this is the end of the feud.

I think they’re going to wait until WrestleMania for Dominik to go up against Rey, which is why I have Dominik taking on Edge. There is a good chance this match can end up having a stipulation, but they only had one match with a stipulation on last year’s show. I think the other members of Judgement Day are going to get involved to help Dominik score a major victory.

Karrion Kross def. Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre is coming off of a tough loss in the main event of Clash at the Castle. He had a shot to dethrone Roman Reigns, but the Bloodline proved to be too much. Since arriving on the scene, Kross has had his eyes set on McIntyre. Kross even had a front-row seat to the main event at Clash at the Castle. Kross finally attacked Drew after his match against Solo Sikoa on Friday Night Smackdown. If McIntyre didn’t have his hands full with Reigns, he sure does now.

These two aren’t going to want to wait long to get their hands on one another. Drew is going to want revenge and I think he will get his shot at Extreme Rules. Also, I think Kross is going to win with the help of Scarlett. Kross needs a huge win to help establish him as a serious threat and picking up a victory over Drew will do just that.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match

Dakota Kai & IYO SKY def. Sasha Banks & Naomi

WWE has done a pretty good job at building the women’s tag titles with prestige. I think the titles are definitely going to be defended at Extreme Rules and putting the titles on a premium live event will really help build them up. Dakota Kai and IYO SKY should have won the tag titles in the first place. While I was confused by the decision, I was also interested to see where it goes. While there is still time to further the story and the decision behind putting the titles on Raquel Rodrigez and Aliyah, I think it comes to an end tonight. Raquel and Aliyah are defending the titles against Kai and SKY on tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw. I think Kai and SKY walk out as the new champions.

I know the idea of this is bold. Sasha Banks and Naomi aren’t with the company and Kai and SKY aren’t even the champions as of writing this. But I still think there is a good chance this match will happen. Also, I know I predicted Banks to join AEW, but after thinking about it, I’m not so sure anymore. This can be an open challenge scenario where Banks and Naomi return to challenge them. Initially, I thought Banks and Naomi will win, but then the titles will have changed hands too fast. And that’s not how you build prestige. I think Bayley gets involved to help Kai and SKY retain.

*Smackdown Women’s Championship Match

Liv Morgan def. Ronda Rousey

Liv Morgan has had a tough go of things since becoming champion. In her first title defense, she beat Ronda Rousey in a match that she also technically lost. Rousey went on to seriously injure Morgan’s arm. Since losing the title, Rousey has been causing chaos on Smackdown. While Morgan is coming off of a good win against Shayna Baszler at Clash at the Castle. Rousey won a fatal five-way match on Smackdown to earn her shot at the title. These two women meet face-to-face again with a lot to prove to one another.

This is the only match that has been confirmed for the card as of writing this. I think Morgan has had a lackluster run as champion and it’s not her fault. The way she is presented is that she doesn’t really have what it takes to be a champion. She stole a win over Rousey when she cashed in at Money in the Bank. Furthermore, in her first title defense, she beat Rousey in a match that she should have technically lost. Morgan needs a good, clean, dominant victory to really establish herself as champion material.

Extreme Rules Match

Matt Riddle def. Seth Rollins

This has been one of the best builds in all of WWE. Seth Rollins is coming off of a big win against Matt Riddle at Clash at the Castle. Riddle let his emotions get the best of him and Rollins capitalized. The match was good, but I still think they can deliver even more. Furthermore, I don’t think this feud is done. These are two men who absolutely despise one another and just want to inflict pain. This is the match I’m most confident about being on the card.

Riddle and Rollins delivered a pretty good match at Clash at the Castle. Rollins picked up a huge victory, but I don’t think this feud is done. I think Riddle will get this victory ultimately making the feud 1-1. On last year’s show, there was only one match with a stipulation, so that’s why I only have one match with a stipulation on my predictions. But I do think it will be this match. We saw a glimpse of it when Riddle tried to hit Rollins with a chair at Clash at the Castle. Also, I think there’s a good chance this match is the main event for WWE Extreme Rules.

Returns

I think we are going to get a Bray Wyatt return. I know we’ve been predicting it with every show, but it seems as if Roman needs a new challenger. I can see Wyatt interfering with the Kross vs McIntyre match and making huge a statement at WWE Extreme Rules. Also, I think Sasha Banks and Naomi will return. Although I did predict Banks to go to AEW, I just don’t think that’s the case anymore. Especially with the drama in AEW currently.

Debuts

None.
