What is the WWE Elimination Chamber Match and when did it start?

WWE Elimination Chamber is just days away.

This match is one of the most dangerous structures ever made in the history of professional wrestling. There is truly nothing like it and is still breathtaking to look at. Many wrestlers have gone on record explaining just how dangerous the structure is. It truly changes the trajectory of the careers of the participants.

In the WWE Elimination Chamber 2023, the men’s match will be for the WWE United States Championship, while the women’s match will determine the No. 1 contender for the WWE Raw Women’s Champion, Bianca Belair, and will face her at WrestleMania 39.

When did the Elimination Chamber start?

The Elimination Chamber was first introduced in 2002 and featured Triple H, Shawn Michaels, RVD, Booker T, Kane and Chris Jericho. The match was for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Michaels ultimately won the match, however, no one really won. All participants have talked about just how brutal the structure is. Since then, there have been 30 Elimination Chamber matches featuring the biggest stars in the company. The idea of the Elimination Chamber match came from Triple H. However, Eric Bischoff was given the on-screen credit.

What is the Elimination Chamber Match?

The Elimination Chamber pulls aspects from the Royal Rumble, WarGames and Survivor Series. The structure was originally in the shape of a circle but now has evolved to more of a square shape. The cage is about 26 feet tall, with an unknown diameter. There are four plexiglass pods in the corners of the ring posts. Each one will hold a WWE superstar until their pod gets opened at random.

There are a total of six wrestlers in the match, four in the different pods and two will start in the ring. After about 3-5 minutes, a random pod will be selected, and the wrestler will enter the match. Wrestlers are eliminated by pinfall or submission. The last wrestler standing wins the match.
