Woody Marks 2025 NFL Draft Profile

Woody Marks is next on the docket for the 2025 NFL Draft profile series. The draft has concluded and essentially, I’m hitting on the last few remaining guys so we can get those grades published. Trust me, we won’t take long with this one so without further ado, here’s your profile on the USC tailback!

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 1Week 4Week 7, Senior Bowl (3), Game

Marks, 24, recruiting was a four star recruit coming out of Atlanta. That includes being ranked as the 133rd overall player, 11th running back, and 16th overall player in the state. The redshirt senior spent four years at Mississippi State prior to finishing up at USC.

Woody was getting substantial playing time as a freshman. His 312 rushing yards in 2020 led their team. Really, it’s the receiving stuff that you’re going to get excited here. Marks led FBS as a freshman at the tailback position with 60 receptions. The following year, he outdid himself and had 83 receptions. The problem is that the rushing totals have never been there. In 2022 and 2023, he was in the 500-yard rushing range. This past year was his best year in that category, posting 1,133 rushing yards on 198 carries (5.7 per), 9 rushing TDs.

The Combine here was pretty dreadful. I’d argue there was quite literally nothing to be excited about during the pre-draft process. Checking in at 5-foot-10, 207, the pure tools are just so average. 4.54 speed is meh and so is the 35 inch vertical. 18 reps on the bench is cool and that certainly is part of his game.

I think his Senior Bowl summed it up pretty well. There was one play during a pass set where he’s literally standing out of bounds trying to get the guy to throw him the ball. Marks has some toughness but it’s more in spades of being a spazz over being uber talented. Can catch, but no grease lightning movement skills. Has some power, but not a big frame that you think it will translate. Not a pass protector. It’s one cut and immediately goes into spazz mode.

The good news… only one career fumble. Reliable hands. Feels suitable for a change of pace role as long as you don’t ask him to carry you.

I’m not overly high on Woody Marks. Frankly, I think he got overdrafted. He doesn’t feel much different from other Mississippi State backs from the past, like Jerious Norwood and Kylin Hill. JAG, who you will probably forget existed ten years from now.
