William Carrier: The Most Underrated 4th Liner In The League?

The Vegas Golden Knights had so many unsung heroes during their run toward winning the Stanley Cup. The VGK were the deepest team in the league and so many of these guys went unnoticed. William Carrier legitimately might be one of the most underrated players in the entire league. If not, then he’s definitely one of the most underappreciated fourth liners in the NHL.

Carrier, 28, posted 16 goals and 25 overall points while playing bottom pair minutes. That’s damn impressive. Carrier also did that in just 55 total games. Expand that out to a full season and Carrier may have scored 20 goals on the 4th line. That’s bananas!

The offense is one thing. Carrier is also a huge body that skates well. He was a +15 last year and was a big reason why Vegas feels so comfortable just rolling four lines. Bruce Cassidy isn’t afraid of matching Carrier up against better lines.

Carrier has this move where he can shield off defenders with his body in the offensive zone and gets pucks on net. Defensively, he always checks and grades out really well from a metric standpoint.

Let’s put some respect on William Carrier. Vegas selected Carrier during the expansion draft from Buffalo. It’s safe to say that they don’t regret that selection despite the fact that he’s “just a fourth liner”. While Carrier might not be a sexy name, but he’s a damn important one. It takes a village to lift the Cup and Carrier’s contributions can’t be understated.
