The Celtics introduced Jrue Holiday today to the media. Brad Stevens already called Holiday the perfect fit but how did Jrue feel about how the trade went down? We know the Celtics were on his short list. However, it’s safe to say that the former UCLA product is really happy to be in Boston.
“I feel like coming here is definitely my best chance of winning,” Holiday said at his introductory press conference.
It’s hard to argue with Holiday. When you can trot out a starting five of Holiday, Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and Kristaps Porzingis… That’s about as good as it gets around the league.
I know it’s just an introductory presser, but the vibes feel very strong here. You can tell that the Celtics valued the person that Holiday is off the court.
Let’s talk about other takeaways from the presser:
It sounds like Holiday is really excited to play with Jaylen Brown. He called Brown “one of the best players I’ve played against in my life.”. That’s some seriously high praise from Holiday.
It also sounds like the Celtics really want to keep Holiday long term and ownership openly addressed being a second apron team. They aren’t afraid to spend what it takes to win Banner 18.
Getting this trade done was so important for the Celtics. The revenge factor against the Bucks is obvious. More than that, Holiday replaces some of that defensive identity that left when Marcus Smart departed.
