Colorado has three wide receivers in this draft class. Will Sheppard is the first we’re going to review. Let’s have a quick chat and talk about everything you need to know in this edition of the 2025 NFL Draft profile series!
Sheppard, 23, started out his career with Vanderbilt. He played four years for Vandy and posted fairly respectable numbers after his freshman season. I’m not totally sure how to process this part yet but Sheppard theoretically should have gotten a QB upgrade with Shedeur Sanders. His numbers are Colorado are essentially identical to his past seasons at Vandy.
No Combine invite so we don’t have measurements here either but Sheppard was listed at 6-foot-3, 205 in college. He was a three star recruit out of the state of Louisiana. Again, the numbers here are kinda consistent in each season. 577 yards in 2021, 776 yards in 2022, 684 yards in 2023, and 621 yards in 2024.
More than anything, I think the discouraging part is that LaJohntay Wester and Jimmy Horn are the superior talents. I’m saying that regardless of the NFL agreeing with me because those other two guys got Combine invites. Does have some punt return experience with Vandy but was never asked to do so at Colorado. I actually sort of liked him at Vandy. The guy just never got better.
I thought he was pretty disappointing at Colorado. If you’re looking for positives, most of his great plays include winning a 50-50 ball. Here’s an example of that. Did receive an invite at the East-West game but thought he was disappointing there too.
The no Combine invite part of this stinks. He probably deserved one. Not that he was an egregious one to leave off the list but a borderline guy who probably should have been there. Every time I watch him it’s like watching a fake impersonator of Vincent Jackson without the talent.
I have an undrafted grade on Will Sheppard. Just hard to go higher given the nature of his skill set. How many of these pure contested catch guys really pan out to be factors in the NFL? Now we’re talking about a contested catch guy who really isn’t athletic and didn’t wow anyone enough to get a Combine invite. I’ll say this though. He’s shown enough to get a preseason invite to see what he looks like in your building.
