Bhayshul Tuten is next up on the to-do list for the 2025 NFL Draft profile series. Before I even get into this one, I have a challenge for you. Are you someone who prefers the truth or are you someone who wants to be lied to? The profile on the Virginia Tech running back epitomizes that perfectly because the things the mainstream media says on this one doesn’t make a lick of sense to me. Let’s get right into this one because I have some thoughts…
Tuten, 22, spent two years at North Carolina A&T before finishing up his final two years with the Hokies. As a freshman, he was a primary kick returner. Then became First-team All-Big South Conference running back in year two. That paved the way for the transfer.
2023, he was primarily a kick returner again while getting a fair amount of reps at running back. 2024, he was just the guy at V Tech at RB. Made the All-ACC team each of the last two years and scored 31 combined touchdowns if you add in rushing, receiving, and special teams in there. He also showed improvement from 2023 to 2024 and looked more like a real running back this past year rushing for 1,159 yards at a 6.3 yards per carry clip.
The speed is there. A 4.32 with a 1.49 10-yard time is damn impressive. He’s a one cut runner who can be that change of pace guy taking things to the outside. He’s a part-time player at best at the next level. Also posted elite leaping numbers at the Combine. The zero star recruit out of the state of New Jersey checked in at 5-foot-9, 206, and is compact/low to the ground.
Speaking of the Combine, this is where the disconnect really comes in. People who think he won the Combine watched the 40 and turned off the rest of the event. His on-field portion was really bad and for a guy with his frame, I thought he was going give way more in the passing game. Doesn’t resemble a real running back and it’s impossible to ignore how bad his actual workout was.
That’s the part I just don’t get. Has zero catch radius with shaky hands. He has to be a factor on third down and what I’ve seen that’s not the case. If he’s not doing that, where is the value? Faster than quick and lacks that short area wow. Also, took a ton of big hits college I don’t see being sustainable at the next level. Not a factor in pass pro and not a ton of strength in general either.
We can get into the red flags because there are plenty of them. Tuten had zero under-center runs during his time with the Hokies. It was basically like watching Jackson Law play his Arkansas State series in the college football video game. All shotgun run cheese. Was never used as a real I form back ever. I mean never.
Big time fumble problem here. Fumbles in general are a problem. Ball security is job security. Nine fumbles over the last two years is vomit worthy terrible. When you’re not crossing 200 touches and still fumbling at that rate, it’s a massive problem. By the way, that’s while playing in the ACC. What’s going to happen against bigger NFL defenders? I’d argue the fumble issues alone should take him off the board. That many fumbles is a non-starter for me and that’s while talking about a guy who has a gadget type of skillset.
I have an undrafted grade on Bhayshul Tuten. If Tarik Cohen without the third down ability gets you hot and bothered, knock yourself out. Honestly, this entire thing is a joke to me and I can’t believe people are taking it seriously. He’s a kick returner and that’s probably the best case scenario if he even makes a roster. Again, I view this entire thing as a joke. Didn’t mention to list him during the stock notes or the Senior Bowl. I’m shocked people are taking this seriously. Beyond being an undrafted kick returner, I don’t get it.
