Let’s face facts: the Cleveland Browns suck. Right now, anyway. This team is far too talented to be 2-6 as they are now, however, their schedule does lighten up for the rest of the year. They are going to need some help, mostly on the offensive side of the ball because one must score points to win games. A concept, I know. Perhaps their best offensive weapon, Odell Beckham Jr., has been silent this entire year. But that may soon be changing.
“I think people have this picture perfect thing where it was going to be sunshine and rainbows and he was going to have a whole lot of one on ones,” Mayfield told reporters on Wednesday. “It is Odell Beckham. He is going to have double coverage, and we have to find ways to format things to get him the ball and force feed him early on to where he can make an impact before we can have the perfect look to have a shot play. That is something we have learned the hard way, but I think as the weeks have gone on, we are continuing to improve on how to get the ball to him.”
Baker Mayfield adressing the Media
Baker Mayfield and current Head Coach Freddie Kitchen have a plan in place going forward: force-feed Odell Beckham Jr. And it makes sense, Odell Beckham Jr. is among the best Wide Receivers in football, why would you not want to get the ball in your best playmakers hands? John Dorsey and the front office made the move to get him in the offseason with the plan to make a deep run into the playoffs, yet to this point in the season, he has underperformed, to the tune of 39 catches for 575 yards and only one touchdown. But he has to get the ball thrown his way, so some of the blame falls on his quarterback. Say what you will about Baker Mayfield, but when he is on he can spread the ball wherever he wants. If Cleveland wants any chance to turn this season around, this may be the strategy to take. But what if this doesn’t work? One solution comes to mind: send Beckham packing.
Odell Beckham Jr. was not a fan of his first move from New York and the Giants to Cleveland, imagine how he would react about being moved again. But rumor around the NFL is that if Cleveland underperforms through the start of next season as well, teams will come calling. Two teams come to mind that should send the farm for OBJ, and that is San Francisco and Philadelphia. Both teams with stellar Quarterbacks, good coaching, stable front office and winning rosters. I’ll say it: Odell Beckham Jr. has never had a good Quartberack to work with, and still has 3 90+ reception seasons. Imagine if he was on a team with even an above-average guy throwing him the ball? He sends those teams to elite status. I’m not saying that Cleveland can’t turn it around, but if come week 4 or so of next year and this team still is floundering? Take those calls. An Odell Beckham Jr. trade will come with a nice reward.
