Typically, the words Ryan Fitzpatrick and fantasy value do not belong in the same sentence. Sure, he is extremely talented, but he is also known for being an NFL journeyman and being in QB battles on mediocre teams. That will change this year, however, as he is signed with the Washington Football Team as the starter. This offseason, somewhat surprisingly, the Washington Football Team is quietly putting together an offense that makes Fitzpatrick a safe fantasy QB.
It is well-known that the Washington Football Team has an elite offensive line, returning four of five starters while also acquiring a solid LT in Charles Leno Jr. An elite offensive line is crucial to the success of any fantasy QB, and this fact is why trusting QBs like Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence is difficult. Sure, they have amazing talent, but they need to be upright in order to utilize that talent. We all know Fitzpatrick has the talent, best exemplified by his completed 34-yard pass against the Raiders as his helmet was being forcibly removed from his head.
Another factor making Ryan Fitzpatrick a surefire fantasy producer each week is the pieces around him. Surprisingly, the Washington Football Team is managing to quietly build a solid offense this offseason. Fitzpatrick will have the talented Terry McLaurin and have recently-signed Curtis Samuel as well. He will also have some solid receiving backs in Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic. These supporting pieces, along with Ron Rivera and an elite offensive line, make Fitzpatrick a consistent fantasy QB.
Look, I get it. Ryan Fitzpatrick is likely not the first name that comes to mind when talking about elite fantasy QBs (and for good reason). But the pieces he has around him, particularly his elite offensive line and solid pass-catchers, make him an extremely reliable QB who will have a consistent fantasy output each week. So if you cannot secure one of the top QBs in your draft, invest in Ryan Fitzpatrick, a consistent performer who can even win you some weeks.
