Can Robby Anderson Be A Reliable WR For 2021 Fantasy?

Robby Anderson is coming off a career year in Carolina and he looked like an elite receiver after reuniting with Matt Rhule, his former college coach. With the addition of Sam Darnold to Carolina’s roster, can Anderson be a reliable option in 2021 fantasy?

Anderson had a great 2020 season and ended as the WR27 in standard-scoring leagues. He had 136 targets while hauling in 95 receptions for 1096 yards and three touchdowns all while catching passes from Teddy Bridgewater. I love me some Bridgewater, but his days as a starting quarterback are behind him.

One positive for Anderson’s production is that Curtis Samuel and Mike Davis are no longer on the Panthers, having left for the WFT and the Falcons respectively. The two combined for 136 receptions in 2020, receptions that could now belong to Anderson. The only problem is the return of Christian McCaffrey.

McCaffrey missed 13 games in 2020. We all know he is an elite runner but he has also shown to be super productive in the passing game. When McCaffrey was healthy in 2018 and 2019, he had back-to-back 100 reception seasons with over 800 receiving yards in both years.

I do think the chemistry between Anderson and Darnold has some weight to it. While Darnold is going to get a full training camp and offseason to learn Joe Brady’s offense, he already has a connection with Anderson. And by all accounts, Anderson is excited to work with Darnold again.

Anderson’s consistent production comes down to Sam Darnold. I am in the camp that thinks Darnold can be a franchise quarterback in this league but there is a chance he just stinks. He has the potential to have a Ryan Tannehill-esque career resurrection but he could also end up as a bad quarterback. Only time will tell.

I think Anderson could prove to be valuable depending on when you draft him but if I were to go with a Panthers receiver, I am choosing DJ Moore every day of the week.
