Why Houston Had To Fire Dana Holgorsen
Dana Holgorsen was fired by the University of Houston and frankly, it was the right call by the program. Nobody should be surprised by this move because it had to be done. I hate intro paragraphs so I’m going to get right down to business.
Holgersen, 52, was 31-28 during his tenure at Houston but finished the 2023 Season with a mark of 4-8. It really doesn’t have anything to do with the record despite the fact that he obviously needs to win more. It has everything to do with the new realities at Houston.
Houston is a Big 12 school now with Big 12 resources. What you can accomplish in this conference should be deemed as far greater than when you were in the American Conference. It’s just the reality of the situation.
That’s what matters and everything leads back to recruiting. As things stand right now, Houston is getting pummeled in the 2024 recruiting cycle. It’s one thing to lose. It’s another to get trounced in recruiting. As of this writing, Houston ranks 102nd in the country in recruiting. For what it’s worth, Texas State is 84th. It just can’t happen.
Want to know why Holgorsen got fired? There is your answer. You can’t lose on the field and in the recruiting battle. Not with the new reality at Houston. Not in that state that’s littered with talent.
It is what it is. What else do you want me to say? There is your answer.
