When Jacob Trouba hits, it will end in a fight

Rangers Head Coach Gerard Gallant doesn’t think Trouba should have to fight after every big hit

After the heated Flames vs. Rangers game, New York Rangers coach Gerard Gallant made comments on Jacob Trouba fighting after a result of every big hit, according to theScore.

What Happened that caused Gallant’s remarks?

Trouba was the focal point in the tilt last night, as he laid crushing blows on multiple Flames players, including Dillon Dube and Nazem Kadri. While the officials deemed both hits clean, it sparked a fire in the Flames players to cause multiple fights involving the Rangers’ captain. Gallant wasn’t too pleased with Trouba having to fight after every hit.

“It’s a shame you have to do that every time you throw a hit,” Gallant said, via theScore. “For me, the first one was a good, clean hockey hit. It wasn’t a dangerous hit. You wouldn’t think there would be retaliation to that, but there was, and that’s fine.”

Darryl Sutter’s stance on the situation

As most hockey fans know, we know Trouba for laying the boom on opposing players in the open ice. But if they’re clean hits, you don’t always have to go and fight another guy. It’s not soccer. Get up, take the hit and move on. Even Calgary Flames head coach Darryl Sutter backed up Trouba and Gallant’s comments after the game.

“They were all clean, good hits,” said Gallant, via theScore.

What I think about Trouba’s hits

Even getting laid out in high school hockey, I would get back up, fix my helmet and keep playing. If it was a hard hit, great, good for the guy who hit me. I’m going to go back to the bench and rub some dirt on it.

I’m all for backing up my teammates in a game if there is a dirty hit. But, after every dang hit, the other team doesn’t need to start a world war on the ice.

Again, Gallant further proclaimed the unnecessary fighting after Trouba’s hit.

“But the second one, he hit Kadri pretty hard,” Gallant added, via theScore. It looked like Kadri might have got hurt. I understand guys standing up for their teammates, but I think sometimes, it gets a little (bit of an) overreaction. Trouba’s a big hitter; people know that.”
