I somehow watched a cooking show where the host of the show didn’t actually cook. I just finished “What Am I Eating?” with Zooey Deschanel on HBO Max. Like any of these reviews, I try to give you the hard-hitting facts without giving away too many spoilers so you can go watch on your own. Let’s get right to the review because I have a lot to say on this one.
I don’t want to sound like a hater. I really don’t. Zooey Deschanel gave us a lot of quality TV hours with New Girl. We’re forever grateful for that. However, if I’m being honest; I’d be embarrassed to put my name on this cooking show. Deep down, I hope she feels the same way. The show stinks and that’s just the truth.
The Selena Gomez cooking show is actually good. I feel like I’m learning things and I get to watch Selena cook at the same time. Win-Win.
This Zooey cooking show is the same level of quality as the Paris Hilton cooking show. The only difference is, I’m not sure that’s a good bar. You already know the vibe when it comes to Paris Hilton and what she’s going for. She executed that vision in her show. Zooey executed the vision for her show but I’m not sure it’s actually a good vision.
This is going to sound messed up, but I will do the best I can to describe what the show is like. It’s like if a Wikipedia page tried to have sex with Tik Tok and create a baby. Then later the PBS Magic School Bus gets it on with Chat GPT. Slap Zooey’s face on the program and that’s your show. I feel like I’m on drugs without actually being on drugs while watching this show. It’s an unorganized mess that’s rushed and too scripted. Give me Selena actually trying to cook over Zooey reading off a teleprompter.
I think the worst part is the fact that Zooey introduces all these side characters that come out of nowhere and do her job for her. I can handle one or two but it’s way more than that in the actual show. It also seems like all of the locations are based in California which is lame. The only cool part of the show was seeing the chocolate tree. That’s your peak viewing moment right there.
Otherwise, this show is a total dud. Subscribe to Vendetta’s Twitch
