Washington National Trea Turner Is Incredibly Underrated
The Nationals are a weird franchise. They seem to have high profiled players but always flip-flop season by season. They’ll either win the World Series as they did in 2019 or finish fourth like they did last year. Juan Soto is their franchise player by far and one of the best all-around hitters in baseball. However, they have a supporting player who’s right up there with him in terms of talent but doesn’t receive the credit he deserves. This is Trea Turner.
Turner broke into the bigs in 2015 but didn’t become a full-time piece until 2016 for Washington. In 73 games, he hit .342 with a .937 On-base plus slugging and 33 stolen bases. Not only could he hit but he could also play both infield and outfield positions with ease. Despite his versatility, he became the starting shortstop for the team for years to come. had it not been for Corey Seager’s amazing Rookie campaign, he would have won Rookie of the Year in 2016. He slightly dipped the next few years, but he brought back his high-level hitting in 2019, hitting .298 with 19 homers and a .850 and earning a ring with the Nats. 2020 was arguably his best season in the Majors OPS even though it was shortened. He batted .335 with a career-high .982 OPS. He also led the majors in hits with 78 and triples with four.
What will he bring to the Nats in 2021? You can expect even more production out of the right-handed bat. If he can keep his power numbers up he could potentially be a 20-20 or 30-30 guy. The whole league doesn’t know his potential and is practically a National East secret. He brings a playing style that could be called five-tools. Stolen bases aren’t apart of the game as much, but Trea Turner doesn’t care about Sabermetric’s feelings. He’ll steal all he wants, swiping as many as 43 bags in 2018.
