New York Met Jeff McNeil Is Incredibly Underrated

The Mets have the most underrated baseball player in the league. No, it’s not Pete Alonso. And, nope it’s not Francisco Lindor although he is a stud in his own right. I’m thinking of the man who they call the flying squirrel due to his buck teeth. The player who is able to play practically any infield or outfield position with heightened swagger. It’s Jeff McNeil and any team would be lucky to have him on the playing field, yet not many have realized it yet.

Jeff McNeil is a rare breed in this day of baseball. He can hit the ball to all fields, jack one into the seats, and get on base. Yes, this is what everyone looks for in a player, but he can also hit the ball and bat well over .300 every season. He does just about everything right and the stats don’t lie. In his last three years, he holds a .319 batting average, and a .884 OPS. He also gets on base like crazy with that .383 On Base Percentage. Jeff broke out in 2019, hitting .318 with 23 home runs and a .918 OPS. He earned a well-deserved all-star appearance, yet shockingly no MVP votes. Talk about underrated.

He hasn’t stopped either. McNeil is part of the new growth of the Mets with an NL East crown poised for them in 2021. They seem to have all the pieces together even though Carlos Carrasco will miss time due to injury. The offense is absolutely lethal and Jeff McNeil is at the forefront. If the Mets make a big postseason push, perhaps the league will give McNeil the credit where credit is due.
