Vontae Davis found dead at 35

Extremely tragic news out of the NFL world today as it has been reported that former star DB Vontae Davis was found dead at the age of 35 in his grandmother’s house in Florida.

Drafted 25th overall out of Illinois by the Dolphins, it took Davis some time to find his footing in the NFL. As is often the case with cornerbacks out of college. But found success after being traded to the Colts.

Earning two Pro Bowl nods with them and establishing himself as one of the better corners in the game. Then ahead of the 2018 season, Davis would sign a one year deal with the Bills. Which unknowingly was the beginning of the end for Davis.

He first made headlines for announcing his retirement during halftime of a game the Bills were playing. He literally just quit halfway through the game, shocking the entirety of the NFL world.

Sadly though, Vontae Davis would continue to make headlines even after his playing career was over. Last year, Davis was charged with a DUI after hitting a truck parked off on the side of the highway. Video taken showed Davis almost unconscious, lying on the side of the road as the officer got him into the vehicle.

All thoughts and prayers should be going to the Davis family and those affected by his loss. By all accounts, he was a great man/teammate who made the locker room a more enjoyable place to be in.

But don’t just take my word for it. Before ending his show today, former teammate of Davis Pat Mcafee took the time to speak about Davis and the kind of person he was.

It is a few minutes long, but if you want to know more about Vontae Davis as a person and his impact on others, it is certainly worth your time.

Colts owner Jim Irsay also released a statement.

“Extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Vontae Davis. A great guy, teammate, player. My prayers to Vontae’s family,”

Via New York Post

Clearly, the NFL world is a little shocked, for good reason. So again, keep the Davis family in your thoughts/prayers tonight.

And make sure to reach out to someone you haven’t talked to in a while. Because in a moment’s notice, you could lose the chance to do it again. Rest in Peace Vontae Davis.
