Vince McMahon resigns from WWE and TKO Group Holdings

Following the recent lawsuit filed against him accusing him of sexual abuse and sex trafficking, Vince McMahon has officially resigned from his positions in WWE and the board of the company’s parent company TKO.

Former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit on January 26th, 2024, which alleged that McMahon had sexually assaulted, physically and emotionally abused, and raped her, as well as trafficked her around World Wrestling Entertainment across a three-year period.

The lawsuit caused outrage amongst people within the wrestling business, as well as wrestling fans who begged for something to be done, and now something has. In an email delivered to everyone within the company, WWE President Nick Khan announced that Vince McMahon had officially resigned from his positions. The official statement read:

“I wanted to inform you that Vince McMahon has tendered his resignation from his positions TKO Executive Chairman and on the TKO Board of Directors. He will no longer have a role with TKO Group Holdings or WWE.”

The lawsuit involving McMahon also revealed details of misconduct from former Head of WWE’s Talent Relations John Laurinaitis, and an unnamed former WWE and UFC Champion, which many have speculated to be Brock Lesnar as he is the only person in the company to fit the description.

Vince McMahon has since released his own statement:

Following the news of his resignation, Vince McMahon has released his own personal statement regarding the situation. It reads:

“I stand by my prior statement that Ms. Grant’s lawsuit is replete with lies, obscene made-up instances that never occurred, and is a vindictive distortion of the truth. I intend to vigorously defend myself against these baseless accusations, and look forward to clearing my name. However, out of respect for the WWE Universe, the extraordinary TKO business and its board members and shareholders, partners and constituents, and all of the employees and Superstars who helped make WWE into the global leader it is today, I have decided to resign from my executive chairmanship and the TKO board of directors, effectively immediately,”

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reached out to sources within WWE to comment on the news, but no one has responded at the time of writing.

The company will host their annual Royal Rumble event on Saturday, Jan. 27, an event that has already seen Slim Jim, one of the company’s most lucrative sponsors, pause its relationship with WWE until further notice due to the allegations.

The company is still expected to field questions from journalists following the Royal Rumble, but it is still unclear if McMahon’s actions will be brought up.
