Charlotte Hornets Did Not Come Close to Winning Summer League
Two weeks ago, I predicted that the Charlotte Hornets would win the 2021 Summer League. It seemed like they had the talent and deep roster necessary to make it happen. Well, we are three games into the four-game preliminary round of the summer competition, and I could not have been more wrong. The Charlotte Hornets are 0-3. The 2021 Summer League champion is determined by the two teams with the best records after four games playing each other for the title. The Hornets are already mathematically eliminated from being one of those two teams.
So yeah, I was way off base. Whoops. I’m not sure it gets much worse than predicting that a team will win a tournament and having them drop every single game they play. There have still been bright spots that lent my prediction some credence. James Bouknight is looking as impressive as advertised. Charlotte fans will love his shot creation in the same backcourt as LaMelo Ball. Speaking of the Ball Brothers, LiAngelo Ball may be playing his way to an NBA contract. Kai Jones will be an electric athlete for Charlotte and is cementing himself as the rim runner of the young core. There’s a lot to like with the Hornets young pieces even though that hasn’t translated to any victories in the Summer League.
Anyway, I was wrong. But then again, it’s just the Summer League, so who really cares? Maybe my backup pick Houston Rockets will make something happen.
