Episode 4 of The Ultimate Fighter 29 was headlined by a bantamweight bout between Vincent Murdock and Dustin Lampros. The episode kicked off with a great moment between Tresean Gore and Ryder Newman, who fought in Episode 3. The two showed each other respect and communicated their hopes for the other’s future. It was a great example of why mixed martial arts is so great. Two men go to war with each other and then respect the hell out of each other after the fact.
The Ultimate Fighter 29 had its first special guest in Episode 4. Michael Chiesa, former TUF winner and current #6 ranked UFC welterweight. Chiesa worked with Volkanovski’s team, specifically the middleweights. I will reiterate my previous sentiment that this show is so great because of the stories that are told. Dustin Lampros told a heartbreaking story of the death of his mother due to addiction. He reveals that his brother found his mother on the couch and how he now fights for his younger brother. A heart-wrenching story that makes it impossible not to love the guy.
Vincent Murdock reveals a rare disease that he lives with that makes the arteries in his brain grow closed. In a fight earlier in his career, he was put into a choke and tapped. Once he got to the hospital after the fight, the doctor told him he was mere seconds from death. If he had not tapped or tapped later, he would have most likely had a stroke. The fighters on The Ultimate Fighter 29 are great, but their stories have been even better so far.
The fight began with Lampros as the aggressor, throwing leg kicks, knees, stiff jabs, and a plethora of other shots. Out of nowhere, Murdock rocked Lampros. After knocking him down, he threw the kitchen sink at him, eventually getting the stoppage by TKO after hitting him with a huge knee to the body. Even though it was the shortest fight of the season so far, it was by far the most entertaining. Both men stood in the middle and ate shots the whole fight. Team Ortega took a commanding 4-0 lead in the season after Murdock’s first round win.
Episode 5 of The Ultimate Fighter 29 airs Tuesday, June 29th, and it will feature a middleweight fight between Brian Battle and Kemran Lachinov. Stay tuned for my recap next week!
