UCLA Guard Jaylen Clark is Launching His Own Cryptocurrency

UCLA guard Jaylen Clark is launching his own cryptocurrency called $JROCK, per an announcement on his YouTube channel. The Riverside, CA native averaged 2.5 points per game for the Bruins last season.

Clark is the first collegiate athlete to have a personal cryptocurrency. According to ESPN, the Bruin guard will promote $JROCK on his Instagram page and YouTube channel. He has amassed a following of more than 81,000 people across the two platforms.

The former Etiwanda High School hoops star told ESPN that his use of a trading app led him to create $JROCK:

“I already trade all the time. I’m active on my Robinhood account. I feel like it’s a great way to educate people on crypto and how it works.”

$JROCK will be available for consumers on the personal cryptocurrency company Rally’s website. Clark said that fans who purchase the crypto will be offered special rewards including merchandise, ticket giveaways and potential appearances alongside Clark in his YouTube videos.

Clark told Ben Bolch of the Los Angeles Times this regarding his new financial venture:

“I love my fans and I’m looking forward to fostering a strong sense of community and providing exclusive access to what goes on behind the scenes in the life of a college basketball player.”

“Joining the creator economy opens up so many possibilities and allows me to bring my fans into the experience, which is something I’m very passionate about.”

Since the advent of NIL this summer, collegiate athletes ranging from household names to solid role players have taken advantage of the potential revenue to be made in amateur sports. Clark has trailblazed a pathway for athletes to create personal cryptocurrencies and we wait to see who follows suit.
