Tyrone Tracy Jr. 2024 NFL Draft Profile
Tyrone Tracy Jr. is one of the more unique running backs heading into the 2024 NFL Draft. What does the Purdue product bring to the table? Let’s go over everything you need to know about this hybrid player.
Let’s just get this part out of the way now. Tracy isn’t a real running back. It’s not a knock. It’s just a reality of the situation. He’s a converted wide receiver trying to make it at running back. In fact, his 2019 season with Iowa, Tracy notched 36 receptions for 589 yards and three touchdowns. Those 589 yards top all of his rushing stats from 2018-2022 combined. Not even joking.
Tracy, a former three star coming out of high school, played four years for Iowa. He wrapped up his college career playing two years at Purdue. Yes, we have six years of data to work with here. Obviously, on the older side and is already 24.
Checks in at 5-foot-11, 209. Was really only a full time running back for one season. Overall, not a bad showing in 2023. Tracy compiled 716 yards on 113 attempts while scoring eight touchdowns. Can tell he’s still raw at the position but showed really good route running at the Combine. Probably the best route running for any back at the event.
I don’t love, love the pure movement skills. Bit of a long strider that doesn’t have super clean shake and bake moves. Can help out on special teams and does come with 4.48 speed.
I think the only real hope here is if you believe he can become Ty Montgomery for someone. Probably the least sexy player of all time but I’d caution you to get your hopes up. The gadget guys are better in theory than reality. You better have a plan for this guy or he’s going to turn into nothing. I have an undrafted grade on Tyrone Tracy Jr. but would consider inviting him onto the roster for the preseason to see if there is more untapped potential.
