Someone has to catch the ball for the Patriots, right? Tyquan Thornton looked like a decent candidate to do so after New England picked him in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Baylor product’s rookie season will get cut short after he injured his collarbone in preseason action.
Even if Thornton were healthy, realistically how high would he be on your rookie wide receiver list? Heading into rookie drafts for dynasty leagues, Thornton can’t crack the top ten. Here… I’ll show you how easy it easy (Pickens, Olave, Wilson, Williams, Burks, Moore, London, Watson, Dotson, and Tolbert) are all considered better fantasy plays. These are my rookie wide receiver rankings list.
In terms of fantasy, I have it short-term Chris Olave – long-term George Pickens.
The truth of the matter is, Thornton was overdrafted. Not saying he can’t make the roster. He’s better than Kendrick Bourne if that means anything. Has real speed. Not sure he’s much else. Only one year of real college production. An educated guess here says he probably tops out at Nelson Agholor which is okay I guess? Maybe a tad underrated with his traits but sure as hell not worth what the Patriots are paying him.
Even if Thornton becomes a bit of a burner, how do you ever know when to start that guy? We’re never going to be talking about this guy like a Marquise Brown. That’s out of the question. If that’s the case with the wide receiver depth in the draft, how valuable can he possibly be in fantasy? Can you even find a taker for DJ Chark? AND HE’S ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD!
Don’t use any sort of fantasy assets on Thornton. There is no point. Take a dart throw on one of these running backs picked in the middle rounds like Isaiah Spiller, Zamir White, and Dameon Pierce instead.
