Turkish ‘Valorant’ Pro Has Passed Away
Professional Valorant player Gizem “Luie” Harmankaya of Türkiye has passed away. Harmankaya, a native of the Turkish city of Marash, was reported missing in the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes that hit southern Türkiye and northern Syria on Feb. 6.
Earthquakes and Tragedy
On Feb. 6 a 7.8 earthquake hit Türkiye and Syria, which was then followed by a 7.5 earthquake hours later. The death toll is expected to rise as rescuers pull more and more people out of the rubble. Harmankaya herself was found 40 hours after the quakes.
Harmankaya played for three different teams during her Valorant career, including the Galakticos Sirens and Viviace Vista, with the UnknownPros being the last team to pick her up before the earthquakes. In her last tournament on August 13, 2022, she proved to be one of the top players on her team despite UnknownPros loss against Beşiktaş Esports.
Love and Support
Love and support for Harmankaya and her family and friends has come out from all across the internet and social media, from teammates, to fans, to others who don’t even play or know about Valorant.
The aftereffects of the earthquakes continue to rock not just those physically affected, but people around the world as well. With more support, both in words and actions, pouring into Türkiye and Syria daily, hopefully the tragedies the world has seen will be remedied faster.
Rest in peace Gizem Harmankaya.
