Matisse Thybulle is on his way to Portland in a three-team trade
Matisse Thybulle has been traded to the Portland Trail-Blazers in a three-team deal involving the Philadelphia 76ers and Charlotte Hornets. NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski dropped the full trade details:
In his fourth NBA season, Thybulle is averaging a career-low 12.1 minutes per game. His counting stats are all career-lows across the board.
A proven on-ball defender, Thybulle just can’t seem to get comfortable on the offensive end of the floor. His 43.1 field goal percent and .333 three-point percent this season are nothing to boast of. In a league where spacing is crucial, Thybulle, who can’t contribute as a facilitator (0.5 assists per game), basically forces his team to play 4-on-5 on the offensive side of the floor.
On the bright side, he should fit well with Portland’s point guard one-two punch in Damian Lillard and Anfernee Simons. Both are proven scorers but tend to be vulnerable on defense.
Philadelphia gets an intriguing young player in Jalen McDaniels from Charlotte. McDaniels is averaging career-highs in points (10.6), rebounds (4.8), assists (2.0), steals (1.2) and blocks (0.5) this season. He is a capable defender and should learn quickly behind veteran forwards PJ Tucker and Tobias Harris.
Mykhailuk only played 13 games so far this season for the Knicks with limited minutes. He was involved in the Josh Hart trade to Portland, so the Blazers essentially swung him to Charlotte. This means that the Trail Blazers managed to turn Josh Hart into Thybulle and a lightly protected first round pick. Not too shabby.
This 2023 trade deadline has been one for the ages, with intriguing young prospects and superstars alike changing hands and moving across the country.
