Jason Kelce is already joining the broadcasting ranks after signing a deal with ESPN. Could brother Travis also follow in those same footsteps? Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce seems to be very interested in becoming a broadcaster after his playing days are done.
This conversation came up on the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast. Everything got started based on a report by Bloomberg about how Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie was looking to sell a minority stake in the team.
“Stop trying to tie me into this, this is you,” Travis said, laughing. “Yes, [I would turn down an opportunity to become an owner], because I want to broadcast when I’m done playing … I want to do that. I want to be the talking head that calls the games.”
Given the success of their podcast, this news really isn’t surprising. Travis feels like a natural fit to join the media full time once he’s done playing. I do, however, wonder if brother Jason would be interested in trying to buy a minority stake in the Eagles given how long he played there for.
While broadcasting may be on the horizon, it doesn’t appear that Kelce plans on retiring anytime soon. He just signed a contract extension in April, which would indicate he plans on playing for a while yet.
Kelce, 34, had 93 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns a season ago. It was a sharp decline based on the numbers he had in 2022. Either way, he’s much closer to the end than the beginning so this is a story that needs to be monitored in the future.
