The recently retired offensive lineman and Philadelphia Eagles legend Jason Kelce has officially joined the cast of ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
“Turns out, it was a short retirement! I’m excited to join ESPN, and particularly the Monday Night Countdown team,” Kelce said in the press release. “ESPN was a consistent presence in our household growing up and the network helped shape who I am and my love of all sports. To now appear on that same screen is a full circle moment. And, I mean it’s freaking Monday Night Football! and I’m ready for some football.”
There were reports a few weeks ago about Kelce joining the team, but the news has become official.
“Jason is a highly respected, Super Bowl Champion with a strong connection to fans,” ESPN’s President of Content, Burke Magnus said. “Walking off the field and immediately to ESPN, viewers will benefit from his perspective which has been shaped through his years as an established locker room leader and a future Hall of Fame center. Jason’s addition to Monday Night Countdown will greatly strengthen our NFL coverage.”
Jason Kelce has signed a multi-year agreement with ESPN and will join the cast of both Monday Night Countdown and MNF.
To make room for the Super Bowl 52 winner, ESPN has let go of Robert Griffin III from the MNF spot. However, RG3 will still work with ESPN in another way.
Though RG3 was replaceable on the Monday Night Football team, it will be hard for the Eagles to replace Jason Kelce on the offensive side of the ball. The Eagles signed Mekhi Becton earlier this off-season to help bolster their line after Kelce’s departure.
