Travis Kelce Shares Thoughts On Chiefs’ Recent First-Round Pick

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce shares his thoughts about newly drafted first-round teammate wide receiver Xavier Worthy on his podcast.

Quote via the Kelce brother’s New Height podcast:

“It’s looking like Pat [Mahomes] has another extremely fast man to throw the ball deep to — or just get the ball to in his hands, because a lot of his highlights, you see, he catches the ball and he’s splitting defenders and making guys miss,” Travis Kelce said on his New Heights podcast, which was released Wednesday. “He’s an all-around football guy. He’s not just track speed.”

Mahomes will have the opportunity to play with another speedy wide receiver after losing Tyreek Hill in a trade with the Miami Dolphins. Worthy recently broke the 40-yard dash record with a 4.21-second run.

“When you turn on the film, on the field, his speed translates,” Travis Kelce said. “He’s catching the ball, he’s fearless going over the middle… you gotta have a bit of fearless if you’re gonna be that fast playing football.”

The Chiefs also may lose receiver Rashee Rice, who is facing legal trouble for causing a multi-vehicle crash.

Kansas City also added former Arizona Cardinal wide receiver Marquise Brown to the team, who also had an impressive 40-yard dash, with a 4.27-second dash. Both WRs will help fill the void Rice left while he is dealing with legal issues.

For Worthy, this is what he wanted. He wanted the Chiefs to draft and the opportunity to play with Mahomes. With a guy like Travis Kelce on the team to help ease the transition from collegiate to professional and on a Super Bowl contender roster, Worthy seems poised to do big things.

Travis Kelce previously signed an extension with the Kansas City Chiefs, making him the highest-paid tight end in the league, keeping the main core of the 2024 Super Bowl winners in Kansas City for the foreseeable future.
