The Rock open to headlining WrestleMania 40 against Roman Reigns

After nearly eight years since competing in WWE, The Rock seems to be considering a triumphant return at next year’s WrestleMania.

Today, Dwayne Johnson is recognized more often for his monumental role in Hollywood, but between 1998 and 2004, he was one of WWE’s biggest stars. Across his career, The Rock faced many top stars, but he’s never clashed with Roman Reigns.

The Rock sat down for an interview on The Pat McAfee Show Friday where he confirmed the rumors that there were plans in place for a return this year. Despite this, the WWE legend seemed more than eager to face The Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns. Fans have notably been calling for the match for years, due to both men being members of the Anoa’i Samoan wrestling dynasty.

“So we got really, really close, but we couldn’t actually nail what that thing was. So we decided to put our pencils down. We agreed, hey, listen, there’s a merger coming up, eventually, that will happen,” he said. “There’s WrestleMania in Philadelphia. I’m saying that’s a potential too. I’m open.”

However, The Rock also noted that the appearance will likely have to be figured out and planned first. While he never made mention of it, the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike will likely play a role in the final decision due to Dwayne Johnson’s role in Hollywood.

But again let’s figure out what that is because the fans deserve something just incredible and unprecedented,” he said. Not only that but I also want to deliver to the locker room and the boys and the girls back there who are working their a*ses off. Vince is a big picture thinker, as you know. This is why we’ve gotten along for years, just trying to think big picture. So we’ll see.”

Retired WWE veteran Ahmed Johnson claims The Rock isn’t who he seems to be

Dwayne Johnson has had a reputation for being a good guy behind the scenes, as well as a very gracious man. The Rock has notably helped many of his peers and is often at the forefront of donations when crises happen around the world. However, according to Ahmed Johnson, the star has a dark side.

During an interview on the “Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling” Podcast, the WWE veteran alleged that there was a backstage incident between him and The Rock.

“[We had an argument] About who’s going to go over and what we were gonna do to get to that point where I beat him up and pin him,” he said. “He didn’t like some of my ideas. I didn’t like his ideas. There was a locker room incident. I don’t really want to say what it was. The Rock, he ain’t who he seems to be. He’s not all that smiling and handshaking that people think he is. I’ve seen him be very rude to some of the fans. Very rude.”

This is notably not the first time Ahmed Johnson has made this claim about The Rock. However, the incident likely happened around the time the two men competed, which was all the way back in 1998. At this time, Dwayne Johnson was only 26-years-old and still at the start of his WWE career. Dwayne could have outgrown the attitude over the years, so until someone else speaks out, this might have been an isolated incident.
