D’Andre Swift needs to remain the Eagles’ RB1
If you have any D’Andre Swift fantasy stock, you were probably pretty concerned after Week 1. He only saw the field for 19 snaps to the tune of three yards. Meanwhile, Kenneth Gainwell took the lion’s share of snaps, creating a sense of frustration among Swift fantasy owners and leading many people to wonder what exactly his role with the team would be.
To get outsnapped is one thing, but it didn’t even look like Swift was going to be a part of this offense, causing plenty of Swift owners to overreact by benching him or, in some crazy cases, dropping him.
Head coach Nick Siriani did come out and say they had to get Swift more involved, but with how deep the Eagles are at running back, many people weren’t sure how true that would be.
Entering Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings, Gainwell was out with an injury, leaving the door wide open for D’Andre Swift. He made the most of his opportunity and showed why he needs to be the RB1 for the Eagles.
He was an unstoppable force out there and the Vikings simply couldn’t figure out. Swift ended with a career-high 175 yards on 28 carries, having his way with the Vikings’ defense and Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson thankfully noticed it before it was too late.
The game plan quickly shifted to giving Swift the ball every play and it clearly worked. He looked extremely explosive and was bouncing off tackles all night in a way I’ve never seen Gainwell do.
“It’s a blessing, especially home opener, first game, playing in the stadium (for the first time),” Swift said after Thursday’s game. “There’s a lot to work on, a lot that needs to get better. I’m looking forward to watching the film and taking it to the next level.”

Now obviously with Kenneth Gainwell set to come back we should expect a slight regression. I don’t expect him to have nearly 30 carries again, especially with Boston Scott looking as good as he did as well.
The Eagles are always going to be a running-back-by-committee type of team, though it’s become clear that Swift needs to be at the top of that committee and get a majority of the carriers.
I just hope you all listened to Trey back when you had the chance and actually got Swift for some great value because depending on how late you got him, you could be looking at a potential league winner.
Just maybe don’t be expecting these 30 fantasy point games on a weekly basis, but I would be very shocked if Swift doesn’t end the season as the Eagle’s true RB1.
