The Jalen Carter Character Concerns Are Absolutely Ridiculous

Josh Pate had one of the best responses to this ever. You can listen to the full rant here, but I took the time to find some quotes I really agree with.

Your character concern is an NFL GM’s green checkmark. When normal folks talk about character, they’re talking about it in the normal world. Football’s not the normal world. Locker rooms are not the normal world, and the field of play is not a normal world. It takes different people to play this game… You don’t have a normal mentality to play this game. So everyone talks about character, and when you see a guy that doesn’t carry himself exactly like the 9-5 accountant does at your local firm “Uh oh, maybe a little rough around the edges” he better be or he’s going to put his life in danger on the football field. If you play the level Jalen Carter plays at least.” No one ever talks about competitive character. Anonymous sources, intel you can’t verify “Most don’t know what it is because they’ve never been in the arena. “If I’m lining up to Jalen Carter and he mouths off at someone in warmups, I don’t care… I can promise you, nothing about him doing that is going to deter his ability to dominate at the next level. – Josh Pete.

I completely agree. If anyone had the mentality to play football they would, it takes a special kind of person and mentality to play in the National Football League. Unless there is a legitimate crime or real documented incident, it should not be talked about in the slightest. Last I checked, Carter didn’t kill someone, he wasn’t convicted of a crime. So what if he skipped some classes (Not saying he has, but hypothetically), how many classes have you skipped in college? What if someone had this intense microscope on you during college? It’s just not fair. Let the 20-year-olds be college kids.

Josh sums it up perfectly with this, and I 100% agree with him.

I don’t think there is an ounce of legitimate concern around Jalen Carter, I think it’s BS when people quote that stuff anonymously. If you’ve got specifics you don’t have to out your source, but man up and either say what you know or just don’t traffic in it. The last thing I’m about to say is “He’s got character concerns that’s all I can say” If that’s all you can say, don’t say it at all. – Josh Pete.

I refuse to believe anything about any character concerns about Carter. If you can’t name a source or a legitimate written-up incident, get out of here. We had this same conversation about Kayvon Thibodeaux last year and look where that got us. Nothing came of it, it is a non-factor unless proven otherwise.
