Hall of Fame receiver Terrell Owens is eyeing a comeback to the NFL at the age of 49. He is currently vying for a return to the Cowboys and would be the oldest person to play in league history.
Owens’ agent, Gregory Daniel, confirmed he’s been in contact with multiple NFL teams, including the Dallas Cowboys.
Owens has continued to keep himself in optimal shape and has frequently hinted at returning to the NFL. He notably hosted a workout with DeSean Jackson earlier in the year before he signed with the Baltimore Ravens.
When speaking with CowboysSI.com, Daniel had this to say.
“We’ve been in constant communication with Jerry Jones’ office over the last few days about the possibility of him returning to the Cowboys,” Daniel said. “Terrell is ready to contribute and play any role, big or small. He’s in outstanding shape. He looks no different than he did years ago. I watched him running routes full-speed with DeSean and he looked great. He didn’t drop a pass.”

Now, obviously Daniels is going to say whatever he can to try and get Owens a job, so it’s important to take all his information with a little grain of salt. I don’t doubt that Owens is in great shape, and I’ve seen the videos of him running routes — he still looks like an NFL athlete.
Daniels continued to comment on Owens’ ability by saying.
“He most recently ran a 4.5 40-yard dash, which was his warm-up,” Daniel said. “He’s a legend. We want to make history and see him break these records. If anybody can do it, it’s him. His three Ds are desire, dedication and discipline. He embodies that every day, even running hills at 3 a.m. on Christmas morning.”

While I may have to call B.S. on a 4.5 40-time at age 49, I don’t doubt that T.O. has the ability to return to the NFL. He has constantly talked about staying in shape and has practically been hoping for a return to the league since he retired.
If he did come back, it would make sense for him to once again become a Cowboy. Jerry Jones is known for making bold/risky moves in pursuit of improving his team. With the Cowboys still in talks with Odell Beckham Jr., it’s clear that they are still looking for another playmaker on the outside.
It’s still unclear on if Jones will shock the world and sign the Hall of Fame receiver. He’s yet to comment publicly on it but I personally don’t see it happening this year, especially after the Cowboys went out and signed T.Y Hilton, who takes the role that Owens would likely occupy.
Ultimately, all Terrell Owens wants is a shot. He’s said that he would be fine being on a practice squad and proving that he still has the ability to play at an NFL level. While I don’t see it happening, I certainly am rooting for it. Even at 49, getting to watch Owens play would definitely be a sight to see and would certainly be a shock to all NFL fans.
