Super Mario Party Power Rankings: Best Characters

One of the goals I have for this year is to become more creative with our company Twitch channel. We need to start streaming some stuff like Super Mario Party. For those who have never played before, I thought it would be a great way to put together a list so everyone can learn the characters.

Each character has their own special dice block they use in order to move throughout the map. Some characters are significantly more useful than others. Without further ado, here are your official power rankings for all of the Super Mario Party characters.

Tier 1: The Ugly

20: Monty Mole (+1 coin, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)

Monty Mole stinks. You don’t pick Monty Mole unless you’re playing scrubs and feeling really confident. Monty Mole doesn’t have any real value when you consider that you already have the option to use the normal 1-6 dice. If you win with Monty Mole, consider it an extra bonus. The rest of the competition should feel embarrassed.

19: Goomba (+2 coins, +2 coins, 3, 4, 5, 6)

Goomba is a slight improvement but still awful. The only difference is he whips out the possibility of getting a 1 or a 2. You get two coins instead. Big whoop. Hard pass.

18: Koopa Troopa (1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 10)

The ten is nice and all but you’re still talking about really slim odds to do any sort of damage. The rest of his dice stinks. The 10 puts him above Goomba and Monty Mole, but Koopa Troopa is still an awful character to use.

Tier 2: The Basic Bitches

17: Peach (0, 2, 4, 4, 4, 6)

Peach is fine. The 17-13 range the gap is super small. Peach is clutch if you need a four, but certainly not the best character to use in that instance which diminishes her value.

16: Daisy (3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4)

Similar instance with Daisy. If you need a three, Daisy is very clutch. Just not the character you actually want if you actually need a three. Daisy comes in above Peach because if you do need a four, it’s not the worst option to use her dice either.

15: Luigi (1, 1, 1, 5, 6, 7)

I don’t really like using Luigi but at least that 7 in the dice block gives me a little juice. The odds of getting blitzed to death by the ones has nightmare written all over it. You can do better.

14: Mario (1, 3, 3, 3, 5, 6)

Not much of a difference with Mario and Luigi. I have Mario slightly ahead because those damn ones won’t keep popping up every roll.

13: Yoshi (0, 1, 3, 5, 5, 7)

Yoshi is a little bit of a dirty dog. He’s in that tier two range but the best of the bunch. You get hot with Yoshi and you’re rolling big numbers and collecting allies along the way. Not having the trio of ones like Luigi is really the difference.

Tier Three: Good But Not Perfect

12: Pom Pom (0, 3, 3, 3, 3, 8)

This is exactly why you don’t pick Daisy. Pom Pom is an unlockable character found in World 5 (Salty Sea) in Challenge Road. Go get yourself Pom Pom. You need a three, Pom Pom is there. Only difference is occasional I get an 8 thrown in there. I’ll take it.

11: Bowser Jr (1, 1, 1, 4, 4, 9)

I don’t really love Bowser or anyone when it comes to 50% of the time I’m getting hit with a one. The 9 on the dice gets me going. The fours I can live with. Good character. Not exactly a league winner.

10: Rosalina (+2 coins, +2 coins, 2, 3, 4, 8)

I probably have Rosaline too high. She’s just one of the few characters where I’m getting coins with the option of getting a great roll in that 8. The way better version of Goomba.

9: Hammer Bro (+3 coins, 1, 1, 1, 5, 5)

Don’t love Hammer Bro but he serves a function. +3 coins really starts to make a difference over a longer game. I do also have those pair of fives I can hope to lean on.

Tier Four: Very Good

8: Dry Bones (1, 1, 1, 6, 6, 6)

You can rock with Dry Bones and feel good about your chances. Need a six? I got you. Need a one? I got you. That’s perfect. Everything else in the middle I can use the other dice. Very good character but just makes the cut here. Also is an unlockable character that just appears.

7: Diddy Kong (+2 coins, 0, 0, 7, 7, 7)

Diddy Kong has the edge. Give me the higher roll all day. Especially when I get to cancel a one for coins on the dice roll. Very rare to have a character give me that many high rolls without the risk of losing coins. Diddy Kong is an unlockable character that can be found in World 2 (Chestnut Forest) in Challenge Road.

6: Waluigi (3 coins, 1, 3, 5, 5, 7)

I’ve won with Waluigi before. He’s got some issues and I get killed on a third of my turns. However, I get some big boy numbers in there. The 3 in there really helps me feel like I’m not going all risk.

5: Boo (2 coins, -2 coins, 5, 5, 7, 7)

Two fives and two sevens? Where do I sign? Keep the change. I’m all good here.

4: Shy Guy (0, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4)

My guy is always here when I need a 4. There is no room to complain. In fact, there is one map where you immediately need a four to get an ally on the first roll. Shy Guy is his own version of the custom dice block. I basically get a free item anytime I want. Yeah, he’s a keeper.

Tier Five: Elite

3: Donkey Kong (+5 coins, 0, 0, 0, 10, 10)

I know, there’s a lot of risk here except when you consider the fact that the normal dice is always there when you need it. I want that 10. Donkey Kong becomes a real winner when you throw those +5 coins into the equation. That’s a big number. Get two allies on your side and you’re cooking with peanut oil real fast. You have to Finish three different courses in the River Survival mode to unlock DK.

2: Wario (2 coins, -2 coins, 6, 6, 6, 6)

Screw the -2 coins. My man is money with the six. He’s Shy Guy except with the six in the back pocket. Those are the guys you want. There are just times you need a certain number on the map. Call in your boy to get that six. Wario is as good as it gets and might deserve that top spot.

1: Bowser (3 coins, -3 coins, 1, 8, 9, 10)

Bowser is that dude. The -3 coins hurts but it doesn’t kill you unless you really suck at mini games. My guy is splashing big money rolls at all times. He gets allies on his side, you better hope and pray at that point. Nobody gets around the board faster which likely comes with its own bonus star. Guy wrecks the game.
