Stephen A. Smith Wants Shannon Sharpe On First Take

Oh, how the turn tables. Stephen A. Smith recently went on his podcast “The Stephen A. Smith Show” to discuss First Take. Specifically, he wanted to address the rumors about former Fox Sports analyst Shannon Sharpe joining the show. It’s safe to say Smith is all for the addition of Sharpe to ESPN.

Divorce

Sharpe recently departed from the show Undisputed for reasons that still remain unclear. A lot of speculation surrounded possible friction between Sharp and co-host Skip Bayless. After Damar Hamlin‘s scary injury, Skip put out a tweet that seemed more concerned with the playoff implications of the game rather than Hamlin being alive. Sharpe ended up boycotting the show the next day because of the tweet.

Undisputed has been off the air for some time since Sharpe’s departure. Apparently, no one wants to work with Skip because no one was jumping at the bit to join the show. According to a tweet from Bayless, Aug. 28 is the return date for Undisputed.

All My Exes Live in ESPN

What’s ironic about this entire situation is the fact that two of Bayless’ former co-hosts would be hosting a show together. Smith and Bayless worked together on First Take for almost a decade. It’s like if two of your exes became really good friends. It would have to be super awkward if that happened to you.

The only question I have is how would ESPN go about hiring Sharpe. He’s developed a decent following in his post-NFL career. I figured he might try to go the Pat McAfee route and go more into podcasting, although there are recent reports that Sharpe is open for a contributor role with ESPN.

It will be interesting to see what happens moving forward. Stephen A. Smith has gone into detail about his feelings about the recent ESPN layoffs. He even went as far as to say he could be next. I guess only time will tell, but with football season starting soon, I expect a decision could be coming within the next month.
