It was a debut to remember. In added time, with the score tied 1-1, Lionel Messi lined up a free kick a few yards beyond the box. Words can’t even describe how beautiful the kick was, so watch it instead.
Messi just recently signed with Inter Miami on a massive deal. He will be paid around $60 million per year and earn equity in the team. Most may see the MLS as the place where European legends come to ride off into the sunset, but Messi showed he still has some magic in his boot.
The arrival of Messi in the United States has been nothing short of superstardom. Messi and his family went viral because they were shopping at a local Publix. I know it’s always odd to see professional athletes doing normal people things, but this is Messi — he’s one of the greatest to play the most popular sport in the world.

Having Messi in the United States is huge for MLS and American soccer (football) fans. Soccer is quickly becoming extremely popular in the United States. The price of admission to games Messi is playing in has skyrocketed. Even if it’s just to see Messi, more eyes on the league and the sport helps everyone in the long run.
I know the United States has a long way to go as it pertains to competing on the international stage, but the love of the game is spreading. With the US set to help host the next World Cup, soccer mania might hit the US and I’d be ok with that.
What an absolute beauty of a goal. I know MLS is not on the same standard that someone like Lionel Messi is used to playing, but it’s still great. Having Messi in the United States is huge for MLS and American soccer (football) fans, as the sport continues to rise in popularity in the United States.
