Spurs’ Stephon Castle will Compete in the NBA Dunk Contest

Another name has been released as two of the four spots in the NBA Dunk Contest have been filled. San Antonio Spurs’ Stephon Castle has committed to be a participant this year. The 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend will take place at the Chase Center on February 14-16. All-Star Weekend has had some rule changes with some of the events as they try to boost fan engagement. Participants for the three-point contest and All-Star game have not been released but for now, we will focus on the NBA Dunk Contest.

Stephon Castle is a 6’6” rookie point guard from UCONN. He was the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. He was selected as a two-way guard with good finishing ability but he needed to improve his jump shot. The young guard has had a fine rookie year so far averaging 11.6 points, 3.6 assists, and some defensive flashes. Castle will be competing alongside fellow rookie Matas Buzelis in the NBA Dunk Contest. Once again, Castle is probably not the caliber of star power that fans wanted to see in the iconic event.

However, I think Castle could be a good NBA player for years to come especially playing with Victor Wembanyama. There is a great chance that NBA fans will watch the Spurs in the playoffs every year for the foreseeable future. Furthermore, this a great opportunity for him to make a name for himself to fans sooner rather than later.

Also, I believe he can be a good dunk contest competitor. He already has a solid amount of dunks and a few highlight dunks halfway through his rookie season. Moreover, he is a frequent two-foot dunker which can make his moves look smoother depending on the style of dunk. Ultimately, Stephon Castle can be an exciting NBA Dunk Contest participant but they still need a star in the lineup.
