The NBA All-Star Weekend is right around the corner. This event is always one of the biggest spectacles in the NBA. However, the event has been hit or miss over the last couple of years. Nevertheless, this All-Star Weekend will take place Feb 14-16 in San Francisco at the Golden State Warriors’ Chase Center. One of the biggest draws to All-Star Weekend is the dunk contest. Now, with the first couple of names committing to the contest it appears Matas Buzelis will be in the 2025 competition.
Chicago Bulls rookie Buzelis is a 6’10” forward who was selected 11th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. He did not play any college basketball as he was playing for the NBA’s G-League Ignite team. He is currently averaging 4.9 points per game and 2.6 rebounds per game on 12.8 minutes played per game. Now, Buzelis was probably not on a lot of fans’ wishlists as he is far from a star in the NBA. I’d go as far as to say that a lot of the people who will watch the NBA Dunk Contest will have never heard of him.
However, Matas Buzelis can still be a fun All-Star Weekend competitor. He is only 20 years old so maybe he will have some youthful creativity in his dunks. Also, he will be the first Lithuanian to ever compete in an NBA Dunk Contest. Most importantly, Buzelis can dunk the ball. He has good size, solid bounce and he attacks the rim aggressively when he takes flight. Although, he does not have that many in-game highlight dunks since he is a rookie. Finally, the NBA Dunk Contest will be a big opportunity for Matas Buzelis to make a lot of new fans.
