SimBull 2021 CFB Full Team Breakdown: UNC Tar Heels

Welcome to Vendetta’s SimBull CFB full team breakdowns, where the writers from Vendetta Sports Media will be analyzing all the Power 5 college football programs for their share value on SimBull. This edition looks at the UNC Tar Heels.

2020 Record: 8-4 (7-3 ACC)

2021 Projected Win Total (via DraftKings): O/U 10

On The Field

The Tar Heels now sit 2-1 and an even .500 in ACC play this season. Led by QB1 and preseason Heisman contender Sam Howell, UNC has returned to their level of expected play, thrashing Georgia State and Virginia by 42 and 30 points respectively. The preseason No. 10 team in the country still ranks in the top 25, despite a dismal showing at Virginia Tech opening week. For those possibly concerned about their play, that is their absolute floor. That is the worse they can play.

While the former four-star QB does not have the weapons of last season, his wide receiving corps, most notably Josh Downs, is nothing to slouch at. Plus, regardless of how my boss, Trey Daubert, may feel about Howell, he is a great collegiate quarterback and will bail the Heels out of a couple of games. There was a reason that he was a preseason Heisman contender.

The Heels and Mack Brown have one top-25 opponent remaining on the schedule, a road trip to South Bend to face Notre Dame. Beyond that, they face much lesser ACC opponents in Duke, NC State, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest and Florida State. There is a chance that they win out and could squeak into the ACC championship, but the pressure will fall on Howell to deliver as always.

In the Market

The SimBull CFB share price for UNC is valued at $47.43, which ranks 17th nationally and is the second-highest in the ACC. As mentioned above, the conference schedule currently facing the Tar Heels is beyond favorable on paper. All three in-state rivals are not at the same level of Brown’s squad, with only the Notre Dame game being one where I would potentially bet against the Heels. Long story short, UNC is an excellent buy, because they will win games this season.
